Lead Stage Actor

Petro Babinets (b. July 10, 1981) started his career with the Lviv Academic Puppet Theatre in 2017. Between 1998 and 2003, Petro studied at the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University where he obtained a master’s degree as Musical Art Teacher.

Between 2006 and 2017, Petro worked for the Ivano-Frankivsk Mariyka Pidhiryanka Academic Regional Puppet Theatre, where he participated in more than 30 productions and created more than 40 roles in performances for children, adolescents and adults that are still on the Theatre’s bill.

Petro has represented our Theatre at many theatrical festivals with performances Once Upon a Time, Ivan Golyk, Nibbly-Quibbly the Goat (which received diplomas of the Sub Cușma lui Guguță Festival in Chisinau), The Violinist on the Roof, Ali Baba, and Zaches (diplomas of the Kolomyia Presentations Festival). Ha has also participated in the Flying Festival project, the EU 2007-2013 Culture Programme with the play Ludwig + Tutta, where he played the role of Ludwig. As part of the cast of this performance, he performed at the Baj Pomorski Theatre (Poland), the Kaunas Puppet Theatre (Lithuania), the Staré divadlo (Old Theatre) (Nitra, Slovakia), and the Divadlo loutek (Puppet Theatre) (Ostrava, Czech Republic).

In 2012, Petro won an award in the category Best Actor Duo for the play Smalltalk (directed by Volodymyr Pidtserkovnyi) at the Merezhyvo kazkove (Fairy Tale Weave) Festival in Cherkasy, and subsequently won the Vitaliy Smolyak Award for theatre art in 2007 (for his role of the Donkey in A Horseshoe for Luck, directed by V. Bogdanets).

Throughout his career with the Lviv Academic Regional Puppet Theatre, Petro has participated in a score of performances, including The Mystery of the Little Forest Dweller, Mykyta the Fox, The Recovered Puppet, The Cherry Orchard, and Festive Dreams.

Petro Babinets wends his way in life with confidence and a smile. His motto is “Love your neighbours and enemies as yourself.” As an actor, he takes inspiration from his job.
